Over 50% of American adults have gum disease – an infection below the gum line.  Gum disease isn’t widely talked about, but can have a big impact on your life.  Patients suffering from gum disease often feel less confident and fear losing their teeth.  Gum disease is linked to several health problems – from heart disease, stroke, diabetes autoimmune disease and pre-term birth – but only a small percentage of these adults get the treatment they need.

Traditionally treatment options have been confined to cutting the gum tissue or extracting and replacing teeth with dental implants.  Fortunately advances in technology have provided the option to avoid the scalpel base surgery and keep more of your natural teeth.  The introduction of the LANAP protocol performed with the Periolase MVP-7 laser permits us to treat more advanced cases and it does so with less discomfort and better post treatment esthetics than is possible with scalpel based treatment.

The LANAP protocol is a patented periodontal treatment, cleared by the FDA in 2004.  In 2016 the FDA approved the LANAP procedure as the only laser based periodontal therapy to be approved for true periodontal regeneration.  This means that with LANAP your body can grow back some of the jaw-bone lost to destructive periodontal disease, all without conventional bone grafts.  The procedure can only be done with the PerioLase® MVP-7; this laser operates at a specific wavelength that attacks the bacteria that contributes to gum disease while leaving healthy tissue intact. Post-surgical recession and tooth sensitivity, which can be significant following traditional gum surgery, are also greatly reduced.  Our office is certified in this unique laser gum disease treatment, and is the only specialty office in Montana providing this unique approach to the treatment of gum disease.
